General Secretary Pokhrel : Foreign Meddling Must Stop

Tulsipur, Dang – UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has emphasized the need to eliminate foreign interference in Nepal’s internal affairs. Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Dang in Tulsipur on Sunday, Pokhrel stated that the current alliance was formed without any external influence.

“This alliance aims to ensure that Nepal’s political parties can independently make decisions without foreign meddling. However, those dissatisfied with this effort are still attempting to destabilize the nation,” Pokhrel remarked.

Addressing past controversies, Pokhrel highlighted that the provision in the Political Party Act, which allows for the division of a party with the support of 20 percent of its members in either Parliament or the central committee, was originally introduced to weaken the then UML. He clarified, however, that the current ruling coalition was mistakenly thought to have initiated this provision.

“The misinterpretation of this provision has caused unnecessary controversy, but the reality is that it has led to the fragmentation of parties into smaller factions,” he explained.

Pokhrel expressed concerns about recent activities in Parliament, stating they do not send a positive message to the public. He underscored the importance of allowing individuals the right to clarify allegations made against them.

He further pointed out that Nepal faces significant challenges, including political instability, anarchy, and threats to indigenous culture. On a positive note, he mentioned that signs of economic reforms have recently emerged, which he views as a hopeful development for the nation.
